Invincible! Wa Power SC ends Group phase of UWR Division 2 League Unbeaten

Poised for second tier Football next season, the Club set the standards in almost all metrics of the sporting discipline which included an early pre-season preparations.

The appointment of the Experienced Coach Kandumah Abdul Aziz John gave Wa Power SC a lifeline of replicating their previous season exploits where they missed qualification due to off field issues despite losing just once in nineteen (19) fixtures.

They also kept faith in Assistant Coach Kadiri Joens to augment the Technical bench after a fruitful first season stint in the previous campaign.

The season started with a campaign in the MTN FA Cup where Wa Power SC played 3 Division One League Clubs in a row, the first 2 ended in 1-0 victories over Unity FC and Maana FC before suffering a 3-1 defeat to Debibi United in Round 32.

The Division 2 League followed suit with an opening midweek 2-0 victory over Golden FC and a 4-0 thumping of neighbors Biyad 77 Stars days after. Wa Power SC then dropped points against Young Heroes FC in a 1-1 draw before winning the remaining 4 first round games including a 2-1 win against Heavyweights Sombo Freedom Stars.

The second round started with 2 draws against Dark Horses and KTFC, but all doubts of a diminishing return in the Team ended in a 6-1 thrashing of Discipline Youth and a 1-0 victory over Sombo Freedom Stars a week after.

The group phase ended with a 5 game winning streak, in total the Club won 11 out of 14 games played and drew the rest of the 3.

Wa Power SC is not just the only unbeaten side but also possesses most key statistics ranging from attacking prowess to defensive ability.

With thirty eight (38) goals scored in 14 matches and averaging almost 3 goals per game, they have scored at least 9 more than any other side.

The Team can also boast of the highest number of clean sheets (8), and least goals conceded (7) due to a defensive block blended with experience and youthful exuberance. The likes of Yakubu Nuhu, Fuseini Ganiu, Abdul Malik, Issah Baba Wahid, Hamidu Taluta, Abdulai Mohammed have ensured they give a strong cover to the goalkeeping unit of Jerry Angleoha and Nurudeen Mobinho.

Adamu Abdul Karimu is the leading scorer of the side with a whopping eight (8) goals firing from all angles, with 7 of those goals scored in the second round including a hat-trick and 2 MVP Awards.

Issahaku Wahidu’s seven (7) goals makes him the highest scoring midfielder in the whole league whiles forwards Garry Philip and Mohammed Mabrouk contributed to 5 and 4 goals respectively.

The 2022/23 season climaxes next month with the Middle League starting from 9th June to 19th June at Wa Stadium with six (6) Clubs from 3 zones participating for the bragging rights, giant trophy 🏆 and a slot in next season’s Access Bank Division One League.
