Exclusive Profile of Ismail Abdul Ganiyu’s new Club

Founded in 1977, Al Talaba SC merged with Al-Jamiea ahead of the 1978/1979 season. Al Talaba means ‘The Students’ and their merged partner Club was also a University of Baghdad School Team established in 1961.

They are one of Iraq’s 🇮🇶 most Successful Clubs having won 5 league titles, 2 FA Cups and 1 Super Cup. They have also won 3 Elite Cups.

The Club is based in the Capital Baghdad and currently compete in the Iraqi Premier League (Top flight).

The 2022/23 season begins on 2nd October and is scheduled to end on July 1.

Al Talaba SC finished 3rd last season amassing 69 points in 38 matches, just a single point behind 2nd place and narrowly missing out in Continental football this campaign.

Al Talaba SC won 20 matches, drew 9 and lost 9 in the 2021/22 season where they shipped in 33 goals and scored 54.

It is interesting to note that the Team almost relegated in the 2020/21 season after finishing 17th, 2 points above the drop zone with 39 points.

With the inclusion of the Ghana International Center-back, the Club will aim to win the league title this season for the first time since 2002.
