CONFIRMED: Maxwell Konadu to Axe 10 Players from Kotoko Squad Ahead of 2021 Season

Maxwell Konadu has confirmed that Asante Kotoko currently have 38 players at their disposal and will trim it down as the Reds line up a number of new signings.
Kotoko are expected to be busy in the transfer market after Maxwell Konadu admitted he needs to freshen up his squad this summer. The Porcupines’ manager is expected to bolster his options in a number of key areas while several first-team players are set to depart the club.

Asante Kotoko are currently unable to make any signings due to a transfer ban imposed by the Asantehene, although they could turn Justice Blay and Mathew Anim Cudjoe’s loan into a permanent switch as discussions are already ongoing.

The restrictions – set to run for one football season – grapevine sources tell us that the ban after the Board in discussions with Manhyia have been eased to allow the club to beef up the squad as the Reds gear up for next season’s CAF Champions League.

Speaking to Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM, Konadu said: “Kotoko has 38 players so there’s no need adding up the number, definitely we will let some go. Even the management are not happy paying salaries of 38 players, it’s too much”

“Kotoko currently have 38 players including those who were sent on loan last season but we will reduce the squad to 28”.
