Former Wa Allstars defender, Zakaria Issahaque is optimistic ahead of the new football season in Somalia with club Elman Sporting Club
The tough tackling right back is entering his second season with the Somali outfit ahead of the new season and is hoping for a much better campaign than before last season
He helped stirred Elman Sporting Club to a third place finish last season scoring none but grabbed six assists throughout the campaign
In a conversation with him ahead of the new campaign, he said ” I am full of high hopes ahead of the start of the new football season and hopefully we can have a good run of form into the season”
” Entering my second season where with the club, my more accustomed to the standards and challenges of the club as well as feeling more settled than my first season here”
Having guided the side to a third place finish, he is optimistic of moving higher than that ” We were disappointed with our season last season after finishing third and missing out on continental football” With the amount of off season preparations done ahead of the campaign and hoping we can give a good account of ourselves and go toe to toe against title holders Mogadishu City Football Club”
On adding goals to his game this season, the right back said ” Am hoping to add more to my game this whipping in goals and assists throughout the campaign” Having scored in our last friendly encounter ahead to the start of the season, I think it give me more appetite infront of goal this season and the timing of the goal was very key ahead of the season”
On his aim ahead of the new season, he added ” Am not putting much pressure on myself and hasn’t set specific targets for myself but to just be me and take it game after game and hopeful we will see where it ends”
“Staying focus and injury free season is key throughout the season and am hoping for favours on that side too as well”
Elman Sporting Club will begin the new campaign at home against Hegan Football Club on December 28 and the defender is full of confidence ahead of the game ” Is going to be a tough game as most first games of a season normally are but playing at home infront of the crowd and Am confident we will definitely take the maximum points” he concluded
