USA: Magical Solomon Asante with a goal and assist to power Phoenix Rising FC to record twentieth consecutive win in the USL Championship
Unstoppable Phoenix Rising FC continued their impressive record breaking season with their 20th consecutive victory in the USL Championship with victory against LA Galaxy II
The game was abandoned following unruly fans behaviour for the safety of the players
With five minutes remaining to end proceedings in the match and Phoenix Rising FC leading LA Galaxy II 4-1, the referee called off the game due to player safety concerns after objects had been thrown onto the pitch by multiple fans, including one hitting LA Galaxy’s player, Augustine Williams
“After a review of the situation, the referees abandoned the match with the score 4-1 in favor of Phoenix Rising,” Phoenix Rising FC said in a statement released
“Per USL rules, a team that has a three or more goal lead after 70 minutes of play is determined the winner, should the match be suspended for any reason. … Both fans were identified and have been banned from the stadium. In addition, the club will be moving to plastic cups for future games”
Phoenix Rising FC won’t be receiving any punishment for the incident as the league board hasn’t stated such in a statement released by them following the horrific incident on the night
Phoenix Rising FC took an early lead in the contest through captain Solomon Asante in the tenth as he converted from the spot
A first half brace from Jamaican international Junior Flemmings gave Phoenix a 3-0 lead as they head to the break with Solomon Asante assisting his second goal
LA Galaxy reduced the deficit to 3-1 with an own goal from Phoenix defender A.J Cochran before Ben Spencer scored to give Phoenix a 4-1 resounding victory
Phoenix Rising FC have also claimed home advantage throughout the Western Conference playoffs following Fresno FC’s 3-1 loss to Las Vegas Lights FC on Saturday night
With four goals scored on the night, Phoenix Rising FC have broken the USL Championship record for most goals in a single season with 77 goals
With the assist on the night, Asante now tally 15 for the season and is one assist away from equally the USL Championship single season record of 16
And with the goal on the night as well, Asante has as well scored 22 league goals and is three away from equally the Championship single season record of 25 goals
Solomon Asante has a goal combination of 37 goals in the season a record high in the Championship with 22 goals and 15 assists
Phoenix Rising FC returns to action on Saturday away to Fresno. The two sides drew 0-0 in their last matchup of the season on April 6
