Upper West Division One Clubs To Compete For Cup In Youth Resource Center Commissioning – Bin Salih
The Upper West Regional Minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih, has disclosed that it will not be long before the B.K Adama Youth Resource Center is commissioned and opened for sporting and other youth development activities.
According to Dr. Bin Salih, the facility will be commissioned in the next few months on a date yet to be decided. The event, he said, will be graced by the President of the Republic, Nana Akufo-Addo, or his vice, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
To make the event lively, Dr. Bin Salih disclosed that he will organize a competition among the three Division 1 clubs in the Upper West Region, namely Power SC, Suntaa SC and Maana FC. The winner of the trophy will go home with a trophy and the bragging rights. He thus urged Wa Power SC and other clubs to start training towards the all-important competition.
He made this disclosure during a courtesy call to his office by newly promoted Division 1 side, Wa Power Sporting Club on Monday, July 17, 2023.
Congratulating the reigning champions of the Region, The Honourable Minister also supported the Club with a cash amount of ten thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC 10,000.00) to augment their preparations ahead of their first season in the National Division 1 League.
He further pledged his desire to support the club when the need be, stating that his doors are always opened for anything that will bring positive development to the region, football inclusive.
Dr. Bin Salih, however, expressed his disappointment in the sale of qualified clubs from the region to people in other regions. He therefore cautioned management of Power SC not to toe that lane.
He admonished the management not to relent in their efforts to move beyond Division 1. He said football has moved from just a game to become business, and therefore requires serious minded people to run effectively.
The Minister was upbeat about the chances of the Upper West region to have a representative in the Ghana Premier League again, “especially now that we have three clubs in the First Division”. He said having a premier league club will not only enhance the image of the region, but will also bring economic development to the people.
