UCL: Eventful night for Thomas Partey as he scores an own goal as well as assist in Atletico Madrid’s defeat to Bayer Leverkusen
Black Stars midfielder Thomas Partey endured an eventful night in Germany with Atletico Madrid in the Uefa Champions League as they lost 1-2 to German opponents Bayer Leverkusen on match day 4 of the competition
The midfielder scored an own goal to give the host the lead and later brushed off the disappointment to provide an assist for former Chelsea frontman Alvaro Morata to pull a goal back as he played throughout the encounter
The in-form midfielder was unfortunate to have guided the ball into his own net in the 41st minute of the match to hand the host a goal advantage heading to the break
The German were quick to increase the tally ten minutes into the second half of the match through German forward Kevin Volland before they were reduced to ten men with six minutes to end the match after midfielder Nadiem Amiri was sent off
Former Real Madrid and Chelsea striker, Alvaro Morata scored a consolation goal in additional time through a Partey’s assist on the night
Results means Atletico Madrid sits second in group D with seven points, three points behind leaders Juventus
Russian outfit Lokomotiv Moscow are in third place with three points with Bayer Leverkusen fourth also with three points after earning their first win in the competition against Atletico Madrid
