Exclusive: The Effects of Anass exposé and Covid-19 on the progress of Hafiz wontah konkoni

On 6 july 2018 Ghana witnessed the darkest side of its football after the Anass number 12 was premiered at the national theater.

Football activities were put on hold, a season in which Hafiz was in top form leading the Ghana premier league goal-king chart with 8 goals and also providing 2 assist, this earned him a call-up to the national under-20 side, many reports were also linking him to the senior national team at that time.

The previous history of Ghana Premier League top scorers indicated he was going to have a breakthrough in his career especially attracting a foreign contract. This could not happen because the season was cancelled half way through with Bechem United playing 15 league matches, Hafiz’s 10 goals contribution meant he had a hand in 59% of goals scored by Bechem United in the 2018 season as his team scored 17 goals overall.

Things were beginning to go well with him after a new GFA president was elected on the 24th of October 2019 which saw a new football season begin in December 2019.

Hafiz Konkoni provided 5 assists and scored 2 goals in 15 games once again in the truncated 2019/20 season, a season which saw all contact sporting activities halted in March due to the outbreak of Corona virus. This time around, Bechem United scored 15 goals in 15 league matches, Hafiz’s 7 goals contributed 47% of his team’s goals once again.

This remarkable feat again kept him in the eyes of many top clubs in Ghana, his 2 goals were scored against the biggest clubs in Ghana football history namely Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak.

With football in Ghana set for a return in November, there is a higher expectation that the deadly finisher will continue his exploits when the Ghana Premier League start on 13th November with Bechem United visiting Liberty Professionals in Dansoman on match day 1.
