Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhüttl Praises new Signing Mohammed Salisu
Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhüttl says new signing Mohammed Salisu fits the profile of the club after completing a 4-year move to the English side.
The 21-year-old has joined the south coast side on a £10.9 million switch to the Premier League from Real Valladolid.
Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl, who has been a huge admirer of the talented defender, says the Ghanaian fits the bill.
“This is an important signing for us. Mohammed is a player who fits our profile well. He is young and has a great amount of potential, but he is also someone who has the qualities to come in and help the team as soon as he is up to speed with our way of playing,” he told the club’s website.
“I like what I have seen of him so far in his games with Valladolid. He is strong defensively, he is calm with the ball – something that is important in our team – and he has good speed too.
“I think he will fit in well with us and that this will be a good place for him to develop his game further. We have some good centre-backs here and this will be another strong option for us.”
One of the most highly regarded young centre backs playing in Europe right now, Salisu moved to Spanish top-flight side Valladolid from his homeland in 2017, first establishing himself in their second side, before quickly progressing into a key member of the first-team.
Salisu was linked with a string of clubs following an impressive first full season in La Liga, but Southampton were the first to trigger his release clause.
He made 31 league appearances and was a key part of a defensive guard that was 7th best in Spain’s top division despite Valladolid finishing 13th.
