Jonathan Mensah named Crew’s 2020 captain
Black Stars defender, Jonathan Mensah has been named the substantive skipper for MLS side Columbus Crew for the 2020 season
The 29 year old is heading into his fourth season with the club and has now been rewarded for his leadership role in the club
He captained the club for their first league game of the season against New York City FC
He replaced former skipper Wil Trapp who left the club to join Inter Miami for the 2020 season
Jonathan Mensah becomes the first non-American to have the captaincy since Federico Higuain in 2013. After having five different American captains since 2004, Mensah is the first African-born captain of the club
