GUINEA JOB: C.K. Akonnor Misses Out as Frenchman Handed Job

A few days ago it was widely circulated in Ghana that Charles Kwabla Akonnor (CK Akonnor) was appointed as the head coach of Guinea national team but it turns out to be far from the truth.

The rumor compelled the former Asante Kotoko gaffer to come out and set the record straight by stating that he had only been interviewed and short listed for the vacant post.

Confirmed news has it that Guinea Football Federation has however appointed Frenchman, Didier Six to take charge of the country’s senior national team as Charles Kwabla Akonnor has been overlooked.

Akonnor was part of 17 other coaches short listed for the post which has been vacant since the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Egypt. The list was trimmed to 5, who were then interviewed accordingly.

The ex-Wolfsburg player has been jobless since his rather bizarre sacking at Kotoko and was hoping to be given the opportunity to work with the Francophone country.

Belgian coach Paul Put was given the matching orders after Guinea were knocked out from the 2019 Cup of Nations in the Round of 16. And the post had since been vacant until now.

Didier Six and his side will begin their 2021 AFCON qualifiers with Mali in December this year.
