GFA CONGRESS: Normalization Committee Chairman Stressed on the Redirection of Football in Ghana
Normalization Committee Chairman Dr. Kofi Amoah has reiterated the need for a drastic change in Ghana football.
He said this during the Ghana Football Association Extraordinary Congress held at the College of Surgeon and Physicians in Accra on September 5, 2019.
The Congress was held for the approval and adoption of the statutes the Normalization Committee drafted.
He says the focus of government in football is mainly towards the National Teams especially the Black Stars as he thinks that’s not the way to go if the country really wants to make headway’s in football.
“It is most telling that the huge investments that Ghana government make in football are invariably towards the national teams and in particular the Black Stars, made up of mostly Ghanaian players who ply their trade in Europe and elsewhere, while the local players and the local football clubs, the crucibles of Ghana football past and future, are left to fend themselves under trying circumstances”
In his speech Dr. Amoah again stressed the need for all stakeholders to join hands to redirect resources to the local game.
“We believe this calls for a rethink and reallocation of these huge expenditures to favor the development of the game at home and the strengthening of our local league. The strength and economic contribution of the nation’s football to it’s GDP can only materialize if the local league is made stronger and profitable”, the NC Chairperson outlines.
His attention then shifted to the talented youth and how it is important to invest in their talents to make their lives worth living.
When it comes to remuneration he stated how it is vital for young players to be paid much better to help quench their insatiable dreams and preferences to be sold to foreign clubs.
