CAFCC EXIT: Asante Kotoko Skipper Felix Annan Apologises to Travelling Fans

Captain Felix Annan said ‘sorry’ to the travelling fans after the 2-0 defeat to FC San Pedro at the Houphouet Boigny Sports Stadium in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire on Sunday.

Hundreds of supporters drove for hours to cross the border to the neighbouring West African country to watch the team in the Confederation Cup playoff round clash.

The Porcupines could not reciprocate the gesture as Felix Annan and his colleagues lost to exit the competition by 2-1 on aggregate having won the first leg in Kumasi by 1-0.

“I feel hurt for our fans who travelled from Ghana to Cote d’Ivoire to support us,” said the goalkeeper as he reacted to the fans’ unaccommodating post-match reactions. “I feel their pain and I think if I were in their shoes, I would have reacted and do more than they did. All I want to say is a big sorry to them because all we have is them and ourselves.”

The Porcupines conceded an early goal but buckled up quickly to put things under control before FC San Pedro fetched the winner late in the game.

Felix Annan was not bemused by the quality of the opponent as he rather blamed the defeat on the attitude shown by some of his colleagues on the day.

“With due respect to San Pedro, but I don’t think this is a team that should stop us from qualifying to the group stage. This is the most painful defeat I have ever had in my Kotoko career. I do not know how to explain it. Our attitude and mental toughness were not there because it is painful how we lost. We cannot be committing these sort of mistakes at this stage.”
