CAF: The Second Coming of Issa Hayatou
Former Confederation of African Football (CAF) President is back into football administration in his native country, Cameroon.
Hayatou has been appointed by the country’s Sports Ministry as a Special Adviser to the organizers of the competitions the country will be hosting. The 2020 African Nations Championship and the 2021 African Cup of Nations.
Hayatou’s 29 years as CAF President grind to a halt when he lost to Ahmad Ahmad in the 2017 elections. And since then he has been under the radar until now.
Cameroon were the original host for the 2019 AFCON but were stripped of the right due to what CAF cited to be poor preparations. The decision was very much seen as a counter to get at Hayatou.
Caf is currently at a crossroad with its leadership in utter shambles and Ahmad Ahmad has been asked to step aside as a representative from Zurich in the person of Fatma Samoura runs the affairs of the organization.
Hayatou has gained a honorary nomination of the International Olympic Committee and has since been attending meetings in Lausanne and Switzerland.
