Breaking: Sadio Mane Clinch First African POTY Award
Senegal and Liverpool forward Sadio Mane has been crowned as the best African Player of the Year after he was snubbed in the previous three editions.
Mane led Senegal to the 2019 AFCON finals where they lost to Riyad Mahrez’s Algeria by a lone goal. He netted three times on the Teranga Lions path to the finals.
He was also sensational for his club Liverpool aiding them to the crucial UEFA Champions League title for the first time since 2005. He also won the Super Cup and the Club World Cup with the Reds under the year review.
It didn’t just end there, he replicated his exceptional form in the English Premier League and also shared the Golden Boot crown with his team mate Mohammed Salah and Arsenal’s front-man Pierre Emeric Aubameyang, all three having netted 22 times for their respective clubs.
He cupped the season off with 39 goals across all competitions for Liverpool in the 2018/19 season.
