AFCON2021Q: Ghana vs South Africa – Match Preview
Ghana will play host to South Africa in their opening Group C game in the 2021 African Cup Nations qualifiers at the Cape Coast Stadium this evening.
The Black Stars have not played any competitive match for a while and will be playing for the first time since their premature exit from the 2019 AFCON in Egypt in July.
Coach Kwesi Appiah is still in the helm of affairs but there is a fairly change in personnel due to injury worries coupled with the invitation of news faces.
Appiah’s contract will expire in December 2019 but the pressure on him means nothing short of a victory could signal the end of the road for him.
The new FA President Kurt Okraku is poised to revive the love of football in people across the country with initiatives like the ‘#BringBackTheLove’ campaign on social media platforms but it’ll take victory upon victory from the Stars for that to see the light of day.
CURRENT FORM:
The Black Stars have won just once in their last three games, having drawn blank with Cameroon, won 2-0 against Guinea-Bissau and losing 5-4 on penalties to Tunisia after a 1-1 draw in regulation time during the 2019 Afcon in Egypt.
Bafana Bafana on the other hand have managed two wins in their last five games including losing twice to Lesotho.
The last time the two sides met was in June in a friendly game in Dubai just before Afcon 2019, which ended in a barren draw.
