AFCON U-23: Ghana vs Mali – Match Preview

The Black Meteors will lock horns with Mali in their final group game in the ongoing Under-23 African Cup of Nations in Egypt this evening under the marquee lights at Al-Salam stadium, Cairo.

Coach Ibrahim Tanko and his crew have found themselves in a state of dilemma as far as progressing to the semi-finals of the competition is concerned.

After drawing 1-1 with Cameroon and losing painfully to Egypt by 3-2, a game in which they twice led the host nation, the road to Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games seems narrower for the Ghanaians.

Their qualification to the next stage of the competition will be determined by their make-or-break game against Mali and the game between Egypt and Cameroon.

The absurd predicament of Black Meteors qualifying is that they will have to beat Mali convincingly and also hope the Pharaohs who have already booked a place in the semis defeats Cameroon. Far fetched, isn’t it?

Meanwhile every Ghana vs Mali game at every stage has always been a firecracker, but maybe the Black Meteors will take inspiration from the Malians bad form, as they seem to be the whipping boys of the group, sitting at the bottom with zilch.

Kickoff time is 6pm.
