AFCON U-23: Familiar Fate Strikes as Black Meteors Lose on Penalties to South Africa
Ghana have failed to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games after losing to South Africa 6-5 on penalties.
The Black Meteors have failed to clinch the third spot and most importantly the opportunity to qualify for the Olympic Games in Tokyo in the ongoing U-23 African Cup of Nations in Egypt.
South Africa edged Ghana on penalties after a dramatic 2-2 draw in regulation time. The Black Meteors came from behind twcice to drag the game to penalty shootouts.
Coach Ibrahim Tanko’s side were terrible throughout the game but somehow managed match the Young Bafana Bafana.
South Africa missed their first penalty but recovered after Ghana missed their fourth shootout to take the kicks to the sudden death.
The Young Bafana Bafana missed yet again but Sarpong failed to make use of the golden opportunity and the South Africans recovered and eventually winning.
The Bafana Bafana have secured the third and final spot to join finalists Egypt and Ivory Coast in qualifying for Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
