WA: Upper West awaits completion of Youth and Sports Resource Center of Excellence
With barely a day to enter September, the Youth and Sports Resource Center of Excellence in the region is no where near completion and it has been of a worrying concern for residents in the region
Construction work has stalled for sometime now and no one is prepared to give reasons for the lack of progress at the construction site as calls to the National Youth Authority and consultants on the project have yielded no positive response
It will be recalled that Hon. Isaac Asiamah the sports minister paid a courtesy call to the region on 22nd January 2019 to inspect the progress of work at the site where he made it known to residents of their determination to complete the nine month long project in time for the region
Ground consultants on the said date also assured residents the project will be completed in five months time
Fast forward from the visit of the Honourable sports minister to date, we are in the seventh month after his visit and much has not changed at the site and the five months assured by consultants has elapsed
Residents and well wishers of the region are wailing to know the cause of delay on the said project in the region
The region has been deprived of modern sports facilities and were optimistic of having their first ever share of such ultra modern facility
Hope are still high in the region but for how long will it take for the completion of the project? It is a million dollar question many residents are seeking answers to at the moment
Authorities from the National Youth Authority and other stakeholders in the region with regards to the project have refused to give answers to the numerous fellow ups and calls made to them regarding the project
Next month will be the eighth month since the inspection of the facility by the sports minister but it is saddened to note that construction has not near fifty percent
For a region that have produced numerous shareholders in the game and served the nation enormously namely: former GFA president Kwasi Nyantakyi, Malik Jabri, Maxwell Konadu, Nurudeen Ahmed, Issah Najahu, Awudu Issaka, Issah Mohammed, Sadat Bukari, Robert Dabuo and quite recently Ismail Abdul Ganiu, Hafiz Wontah Konkoni, Hafiz Adams and the likes deserve better than what we have at the moment
The multi purpose facility when completed will have a Fifa standard field, Counseling center, Basketball court, ICT center and restaurant among others in it
The big question is when is the project completing and what has caused the lack of progress on the site?
