U/W: Feature; The need to maintain our National Division One League Club in the region

Following the aftermath of the Regional Football Association elections in the Upper West Region, time now to take a look at another very crucial and constructive issue in the region ahead of the upcoming football season in Ghana

How to maintain our representatives in the national division one league. The Upper West Region in recent years now has failed to make grades in the national division one league as many would have expected as many teams from the region only go into the competition as observers rather than competitors which has made it impossible for the clubs to keep their Divison One League status. Time now for us as a region to join forces and work towards a common goal of eradicating that viral canker

This has become more pressing following the relocation of the region’s sole representative in the elite division, Wa Allstars SC to the nation’s capital following a change of ownership of the club’s hierarchy leaving the region with a sole slot in the national division one league to embrace going forward

A slot which is keenly contested by numerous regional division two clubs vying for just a single ticket to represent the region at the national division one league, it takes only the well organized and standout club to gain promotion to the second tier of Ghana football to represent the region

During the regional division two league, all the clubs always showcase their zeal and can do spirit of conquering the region in order to participate in the national division one league, hence has to work on their own ways to do so and for that reason the rivalry between clubs at the regional level is always lofty. One wouldn’t expect another club backing the other for the slot during or before the league commences. Can’t we come together after the regional battle?

Now that we know our sole representative at the national division one level and with the region now having to solely rely on the club following the departure of Wa All-stars, it is now time for all the other clubs and stakeholders in the region to come together and bury all differences encountered during and after league and now rally behind the region’s sole representative in the division one league. This is to enable them maintain their status as a division one club in the league or go all the way to winning it and gaining promotion into the nation’s elite league. This will fill the void left by the then Upper West Region sole representative in the Ghana premier league. This is something everyone associated with the region would dream of seeing it work one day

The division one club should now be taken as the regional club but not only a club for it’s management, owner, supporters and players. It has now moved beyond a club with owner or fan base but a regional treasurer worthy of supporting

Wa Rockets and Dark Horses FC in recent seasons have all been victims of such canker which didn’t yield any dividends for the club and the region as well. “You can’t talk of support when the club in question fold their arms to themselves and think all is well with them and needs no one’s support going forward as they have been able to conquer the whole region”

Considering the geographical disadvantage it will be for our sole representative in the upcoming national division one league and how hostile the venues of some of the division clubs are, it will be helpful if we all in the region join hands to support the club in anyway so we don’t repeat previous mistakes. Time to have multiple division one clubs in the region.

For a club to be a force to reckon with in any league, you need to have a strong home base to push you going forward. Can you imagine a 100 per cent win rate in 15 home games? Surely you can’t join the drop

The bad practise of coming to the stadium simply to against the home team which has been the case previously must be erased. If you can’t support them at least don’t frustrate them. Others could even go as far as using black magic, African Metaphysics, (juju) in order to bring the home team down which we have witnessed in recent times in the region

On the other hand, we shouldn’t expect everyone to be supporting the club. It is normal in human lives as not all will buy into the ideas of the club and should be accepted in good faith, rather than it becoming a bitter issue between those involved going forward

Let’s join a common goal this time round to help in any other way to support our sole representative. We criticise to improve but not to tarnish others image and should be taken in good faith as well

Once we all channel our resources, our advice, our support and above all our human self towards one objective, it will be practically impossible for Wa Suntaa SC to join the drop. Up Upper West
