AFCON2021Q: Jordan Ayew’s Spot Kick Sends Ghana Atop of Table
The Ghana Black Stars have beaten São Tomé by a lone goal to nil to maintain a one hundred percent record in the qualifiers after a rather lackluster display at the Stade Nacional 22 de Julho.
Jordan Ayew’s 50th minute penalty kick ensued the win for the Black Stars.
Despite the terrible nature of the pitch, the Ghanaians dominated for the most part of the game but they however struggled to create goal scoring opportunities against a relatively unknown side in the African terrain.
The Stars were not at their gun-slinging best. Samuel Owusu was a pale shadow of himself, no wonder he was substituted for debut Christopher Antwi-Adjei.
Thomas Partey was shot of bullets, skiper Andre Ayew’s aim was awry and Jordan Ayew starved of ammunition except his spot kick that spared Ghana some blushes.
The back four of Andy Yiadom, Gideon Mensah, Joseph Aidoo and Kassim Nuhu consolidated a force for the Islanders. They ensured Ghana held on to the narrow win to go atop the table.
