Breaking: Mr. Kurt Okraku beats off competition from George Afriyie and four others to be come the successor of Kwesi Nyantakyi as Ghana Football Association President

Dreams FC Executive Chairman and Bank roller Mr. Kurt Okraku has been voted for as the new Ghana Football Association (GFA) president after wading off competition from fierce contender George Afriyie at the GFA Extra-Ordinary Congress

The Ghana Football Association presidential election was settled after a marathon run of third round voting before the winner emerged after none of the presidential hopefuls failed to pull more than 50% of the total votes at the congress

The renowned football administrator led the first round of voting after pulling 44 votes as against closest rival George Afriyie with 40 votes

Nana Yaw Amponsah gained 27 votes with former vice president Fred Pappoe gaining 6 votes

Both Lawyers on the ballot Amanda Clinton and George Ankamah had no votes at the end of the first round of voting

The first round of voting had 117 vote casted with two delegates absent and one spoilt vote on the day

By the rules of the elections, those with the least votes dropped out of the race ahead of the second round of voting as four candidates were qualified to contest in the process

Mr. Fred Pappoe conceded defeat ahead of the second round of voting as the race was now keenly contested between Kurt Okraku, George Afriyie and Nana Yaw Amponsah

Mr. Kurt Okraku amassed 59 votes in the process with George Afriyie gaining 43 votes as to Nana Yaw Amponsah’s 16 votes in the second round of voting

A total of 118 votes were casted in the second round as one spoilt vote was recorded during the process

With no clear cut winner at the end of the second round as none of the candidates failed to amass the required 50%+1 vote on the day to be declared winner, the elections was forced into a third round of voting

Mr.George Afriyie conceded defeat half way into the third run of voting to leaving Kurt Okraku as the last man standing in the process

As per the electoral process rule, delegates were still to vote until they arrive at the 50%+1 vote to declare Mr. Kurt Okraku as the outright winner of the elections

After the third round of voting, Mr Kurt Okraku amassed 93 of the votes casted in the final round and has been duly elected as the new Ghana Football Association President

Mr. Kurt Okraku succeeds former president Kwesi Nyantakyi who was banned from all football-related activities following the airing of Anas expose documentary titled “Number 12”

For the first time in over 13 years there will be a new face at the helm of affairs at the Ghana Football Association have other than Mr. Kwesi Nyantaky
