WAFU CUP: Black Stars ‘B’ Fail to Defend Title As Senegal Win on Penalties
It was a deja vu as the host nation Senegal defeated Black Stars ‘B’ on penalties to win the 2019 ESPN WAFU Cup of Nations.
The showdown was intense from the opening exchanges up until the 90th minute as both both sides failed to score in regulation time.
In extra time the two sides became a bit more direct and purposeful. Senegal broke the deadlock through Yousouph Badji in the second half of extra time but Ghana equalized almost immediately through Joseph Esso.
As both regulation and extra times failed to decide a clear winner, they resorted to penalty kicks.
Ghana lost the first two penalties through Augustine Okrah and Fatawu Mohammed as Senegal scored both.
Appiah McCarthy brought hope after he neatly slotted home to tie it down to 3-1 but Justice Blay’s bizarre kick was saved by the Senegalese goalie and Senegal became victorious.
