GPL: Coach Johnson Smith joins Kumasi Asante Kotoko as assistant coach
Kumasi Asante Kotoko have formally announced former Karela United head coach Johnson Smith as the club’s assistant coach
The former Karela United coach penned a two-year deal at the club’s secretariat on Friday taking over from coach Raphael Akakpo following the expiration of his contract the Porcupine Warriors
Coach Johnson Smith has previously worked at the club before
He was once assistant to former Kotoko coach Bashiru Hayford in 2007 and served as Caretaker Coach in 2008 after then Head Coach, Paa Kwesi Fabin has left the club
He returns to the club after a two-year fruitful stint with Karela United
He guided Karela United to gain promotion to the Ghanaian top-flight league in his first year and was third on the league table before the truncation of the top-flight competition in June 2017
He went on to guide Karela United to the finals of the Normalisation Committee Special Competition in his second year only to lose to Kotoko in the finals of the Tier One Cup as Kotoko beat them on penalties
