KOTOKO: Fans Demand Ganiu Whereabouts as #SaveGaniuNow Trends on Twitter
Injured Asante Kotoko defender Ismail Abdul Ganiu whereabouts is once again generating a flurry of questions on the local media landscape.
Belief surged through Ganiu’s veins since joining the Porcupine Warriors from Karela United, he became an instant hit, pivotal in defends and was very instrumental in their African inter-club competition last season.
But Ganiu got injured. The fear of every professional footballer is injury, especially career threatening injury just like Ganiu’s. It’s been solid three months and counting since he sustained a knee injury during Kotoko’s campaign in the CAF Confederation Cup last season.
Ganiu’s conspicuous absence from action could only mean one thing – he was going through rehabilitation to nip the injury in the bud but it turned out to be the opposite. Sadly and rightly so.
The defender was simply ignored and sidelined for reasons best known to the hierarchy of Asante Kotoko.
Ganiu then cried out for help through a radio interview and as expected the club’s Communication Director Kennedy Boakye-Ansah responded in what could be called a PR stunt, that they were preparing to fly the player to Germany for surgery, it’s almost three months and that never happened.
And there’s no further update on the player till date.
In addition to the numerous yearning on social media, we’ll humbly add our voice to yearn even louder: Where is ADBUL GANIU?
