WAFU CUP: Shafiu Mumuni’s Hat-trick Sends Black Stars ‘B’ to Finals

It was obviously a game to forget for the Ivorians.

Captain Shafiu Mumuni was on fire as he grabbed a hat-trick to send Black Stars ‘B’ to the finals in the on-going WAFU tournament in Senegal.

The two sides crossed their swords in the central area fighting for every inch of space: much athleticism was required from the Ghanaians and yes they withstood the physique test.

Several chances were created but it took an unsuccessful clearance that hit Shafiu Mumuni’s back to score a scrappy goal on the 30th.

In the opening exchanges of the second half a long pass was lunched from the rare to Okrah which didn’t find him exactly but his opponent’s failed attempt to shield the ball allowed Okrah to outwit him who then sent in a well measured cross into the penalty box and Shafiu Mumuni was first to react by heading home for his second goal and of course Ghana’s too.

Shafiu again headed home from a similar cross to make it 3-0 for the defending champions.

A beautifully struck free kick by Aboubacar Doumbia looked to be well captured by Eric Ofori Antwi but the ball wriggles away from his gloves and into the net. But that goal was short of nothing but a consolation for the Ivorians.

The Black Stars ‘B’ are through to the finals and will face either Senegal or Mali on Sunday.
