CAF CL: Asante Kotoko progressed after a comfortable victory over Kano Pillars
Ghana premier league outfit Kumasi Asante Kotoko advanced into the next qualifying round of the preliminary round of games for the Caf champions league after beating Nigerian opponents Kano Pillars 2-0 at the Baba Yara stadium to earn a 4-3 aggregate win
The Porcupine Warriors came into the game at the back of a 2-3 defeat in Nigeria in the first leg of the encounter and had a tall mountain to climb in order to advance in the competition
Kotoko made their intentions clear from kick off on Sunday afternoon at the Baba Yara stadium and unsettled their opponents with an early lead
Two former Wa Allstars players Richard Arthur and Kelvin Matthew Andoh combined to give Kotoko the lead with three minutes into the game as Richard Arthur teamed up Kelvin Andoh to score his first goal in the Porcupine’s colours
The home side continued to dominant proceedings as they search for their second goal in the game
Richard Arthur was unfortunate not to have found the net after hitting the woodwork
The home side were far too splendid for the away side to contain as they pushed forward for their second goal and had two goals ruled out for offsides in the game
Kotoko were rewarded for their resilience and patience in the 70th minute after forward Naby Keita audaciously used his chest to set up Emmanuel Gyamfi to score the second for Kotoko
The comfortable victory means Kotoko progresses into the next stage of the competition on an aggregate 4-3 to set up a tie with Tunisian top-flight side Etoile du Sahel
