CAF CONFEDERATION CUP: Mixed Feelings as Ashantigold SC Wins 3-2 at Home
Ashantigold made their intentions pretty clear from the start of the game as they huffed and puffed and pinned their opponents (RS Berkane) to their own half for most part of the first 20 minutes.
No wonder they got a goal through Eric Donkor in the 16th minute who’s attempt was a bit deceitful and goalie Laaroubi was beaten, (1-0).
After firing from all cylinders Appiah Maccarthy’s attempt hits the cross bar at the 22nd minute but the Miners relentlessly kept pushing until talismanic Shafiu Mumuni got the second on the stroke of halftime, (2-0).
Halftime whistle came with Ashgold in total control, but the second half though, was quite disappointing as RS Berkane level off the scoreline.
In the 51st minute, Mohammed Aziz reduced the deficit to 2-1 and just after 6 minutes, his surname-sake Mohammed Farehane secured parity with a low strike to make it 2-2.
Amos Adae restored the lead immediately to 3-2. The Miners would mined for goal scoring opportunities but never made it count as it ended 3-2 in 90 minutes. Mixed feelings!
It’s a tall order for the Obuasi based club ahead of the return leg in Morocco.
