Meet Abigail Owusua, the woman who coaches men.

Ayesu Owusua Abigail who hails from Anum Boso in the Eastern region of Ghana is the head coach of Anum New Generation Football Club, a division 3 club in Anum Boso. It is an intriguing feat for the young lady as it is scarce to see a female coach in this parts of the world, let alone coaching a male team.

Abigail Owusua who used to play soccer stopped for some reasons, but subsequently joined the boys of Anum New Generation Football club to train a few times. With the team lacking a coach for sometime, she took the opportunity to venture into coaching and lead the team, since then she has developed passion for Coaching and it’s something she intends to continue doing into the future.

The young coach who does not feel intimidated by the guys said she feels comfortable around them and working with them and also satisfied seeing how they listen to her tactics and instructions on and off the field.

“When I coach a female team, it will be normal but i want the male side. A challenge that I want the world to know is that if women are given the opportunity at the male side, we can also perform”, she said.

Emma Hayes, Head coach of Chelsea Women and Pep Guardiola of Manchester city are the coaches that inspire her and she looks up to them.

Abigail sees herself coaching a female Ghana national team in the near future and even the Ghana Black stars or a Ghana Premier league side.

With determination, hard work and her willingness to learn and develop, the young female coach will be looking to acquire the necessary coaching certificates and licences both locally and internationally to help get her to the top of her coaching career.
