U-23 Qualifier: Black Meteors players Cry Foul Over Poor handling
Players of the Black Meteors felt they have been treated unfairly after their 1-1 drawn game against Algeria in Accra.
Even before the game on Friday, it was reported that the players financed their own trip to Ghana for the game. And after the game they went back to their hotel in a rickety bus, meanwhile their Algerian counterparts were provided with a relatively new air conditioned bus.
One player is quoted to have said “They are treating the Algerians better than us, as if when we go there these guys will treat us any better” he spoke to Citi Sports, an Accra-based radio station.
Another said “This is disgraceful, it’s like they don’t care about this game. The pitch wasn’t even watered. Just putting water on the pitch too, they didn’t do it,”
Egypt will host this year’s CAF U-23 Championship and the winner of the two legged game qualifies for the competition.
