CAF U-23: Bernard Tekpetey is Confident the Black Meteors can still Qualify

The Black Meteors on Friday played an uninspiring draw at home against Algeria in the first leg of the final round of qualifiers.

Despite the disappointing outing of the team, Fortuna Düsseldorf attacker Bernard Tekpetey is still beaming with confidence they can beat Algeria in their own backyard to book a place in this year’s CAF U-23 tournament in Egypt.

Tekpetey tweeted after the game “Not the results we all expected but we gonna fight back in our return game…let’s all keep the fire burning

The North Africans made their intentions clear after Adem Zorgane hits one past goalkeeper Kwame Baah in the 30th minute.

Captain Yaw Yeboah had the chance to pull parity but missed as he ballooned his spot kick over the bar.

However the Black Meteors were lucky to have been awarded yet another penalty in the second half but this time RSC Anderlecht forward Dauda Mohammed calmly converted it and the game ended 1 all.

They’ll travel to Algiers for the return leg on Tuesday and the winner will be deemed qualified for Egypt 2019.
