Caf CC Preview: Ashgold vs Akonangui FC – Miners hopeful of progressing to the next stage of the competition

Ghana premier league side AshantiGold will be hoping to make it pass this round of qualifiers after failing to do so in their last participation in the tournament in 2011 after being knocked out by Tunisia top-flight side Etoile de Sahel on a 4-2 aggregate

Ashgold will hope to banish that fate come Saturday when they come face to face with their counterparts from Equatorial Guinea in the second leg of the game after been held to a 1-1 draw away from home in the first leg a couple of weeks ago in Equatorial Guinea

A win or goalless draw at the Len Clay stadium will be enough to book a spot in the next qualifying round for the ‘Miners’ haven scored an away goal in the first leg of the game whiles a defeat or more than one goal draw will get Ashgold eliminated from the competition

Ashgold will be without injured duo Julius Ofori Ziggy and Stephen Banahene for the game at the Obuasi Len Clay stadium

On the positive side, head coach Ricardo De Rocha’s side will welcome back Amos Kofi Nkrumah and Appiah McCarthy after both set of players missed the first leg due to injuries

Winners of the encounter will face last season’s Caf confederation cup runner-up RS Berkane of Morocco in the second round of qualification
